Terms

How this works

Writing Ever After is a developmental editing studio run by Lia La Chapelle in Cumbria, United Kingdom. These terms cover this website and, until a separate agreement is signed, the editing work itself. Last updated 30 July 2026.

The website

Everything here is offered in good faith and for information. Prices, availability and turnaround times can change, and nothing on this page is a binding offer until it has been confirmed in writing. Sending an enquiry does not book any work in.

Your manuscript is yours

You keep every right in anything you send. Editorial notes are advice, not co-authorship, and no claim is made over your work, your characters or your ideas. Your manuscript is treated as confidential: it is not shown to anyone else, not quoted publicly without your permission, and never used to train any machine learning system.

What editing is, and is not

Developmental editing is structural: what the book is doing, what it is not doing yet, and what to change first. It is not proofreading or copy-editing, and it is not a guarantee of publication, representation or sales. What you do with the notes is entirely your decision.

Booking, payment and cancellation

Work is agreed in writing before it starts, with a scope, a fee and a delivery date. A deposit may be required to hold a slot. If you cancel before work begins, the deposit is returned less anything already spent on reading. If work has begun, the fee is due for the part completed. If a deadline cannot be met from this side, you will be told as early as possible and can either wait or take a full refund.

Complaints

If something is wrong, say so through the contact form and it will be answered. Nothing here affects your statutory rights as a consumer under UK law.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.
