You've already done the hard part. You finished the draft. What you need now is someone in your corner: honest about what's working, gentle about what isn't, and clear about how to carry your story the rest of the way home. Whether you're querying agents, going indie, or simply ready to write braver, I'll help you tell the truest version of your story.
Developmental Editing
You wrote it,
now let's make it reader ready.
Every manuscript needs polish to make it shine.
Writers who found their footing
Every writer's road is different. That moment of finally being understood? That part's always the same.
An incredible critique. I've never seen anything like it. Inspired me to make tiny changes that echo the themes you identified.
Reading your critique felt like a miracle. I didn't believe I'd find someone genuinely interested in historical fiction set in medieval Hungary. You've made my day.
Thank you for your critique. I might have peeked through my fingers reading it, but it was so incredibly helpful. Also, thank you for reliably nerding out about mythology with me. I love that so much.
You've helped me improve my own critique process. Your feedback was spot-on and very helpful.
Thanks for the feedback. Your note about Harry's behaviour was insightful and will help me deepen his arc.
Your edit letter made me so happy. You really captured what I was going for with the themes. I'm excited to revise!
Thank you so much. Really helpful. Will cut the dream sequence.
Thanks for a fantastic critique. Your way of dissecting the elements and characters was really useful.
Thanks for the critique. I agree it's overcompressed at present and your structural suggestions were very useful for a rewrite.
Thank you for your critiques! They're all pretty spot on to what I was thinking. Helps solidify my rewrite plans.
Thanks for giving me examples in the edit letter. It really helps me understand it better.
Thank you so much for your thoughtful comment. It let me know I was on the right track, which is incredibly valuable.
Thanks so much for your detailed notes, hugely appreciated. Your concluding comments hit all the trouble-spots I had naively ignored, hoping people wouldn't notice.
You've described the issues with my opening perfectly.
Thanks so much for the very helpful feedback.
Re-reading your feedback and just wanted to say thanks again. I really appreciate your insights.
Thanks for the excellent feedback.
Thank you for the feedback. Loved it and it was exactly what I needed.

Ongoing Mentorship
Walk-Alongside Coaching
For writers who want a companion, not a one-off edit. Over several weeks I read your chapters as you write, we untangle the knotty bits early, and I help you keep moving before small problems become big rewrites.
- 1Set your goal and a realistic timeline
- 2Build the foundations: outline, characters, structure, theme
- 3Regular check-ins to unblock the sticky bits
- 4Milestones and recalibration as the story grows
A little about me
I'm Lia, New England born, now happily lost among the lakes and fells of the Lake District. For nearly fifteen years I've worked as a developmental editor, and I've had the privilege of reading more than 500 manuscripts. Stories aren't just my work; they're pretty much my whole world.
I teach and volunteer at The Ubergroup, a non-profit making arts education open to everyone, because thoughtful feedback shouldn't be a luxury. I also founded Ever After Press, an independent press with several imprints and Ever After Books, a little indie bookshop, where I host bookclubs and in-person writing workshops.
Tell me about your story
No pressure and no commitment. Just tell me what you're working on and the kind of support you're hoping for, and I'll write back within a couple of days.
